It has come to our attention that some customers are noticing some loose cord fibers or some excessive “shedding” of the cord after using their MAXPRO. Please see the example below.
We had been assured by the cord supplier that this “shedding” is a normal condition when first pulling on the cords and that this initial condition does not lessen the break strength of the Kevlar cord, which is rated at over 1000lbs. In addition to that assurance, the supplier ran numerous laboratory trials of thousands of cycles and provided us with the test reports showing the cords passing all requirements.
However, we at MAXPRO Fitness still have some concern that in some cases, this excessive shedding condition might persist and cause a weakening of the cord, which could eventually lead to failure under regular, primarily if continuously used at high-resistance levels of 20 or above. So as has been our practice in the past, we again wanted to communicate our concern openly with you, and in a timely fashion.
To rectify this issue, and reduce the possibility of premature cord wear, we will be supplying a cord replacement kit over the next several weeks to anyone who continues to experience this excessive “shedding” condition after the initial use period of 2 to 3 weeks, at no cost. This new cord replaces the Kevlar cord with a stronger, more durable Dyneema ultra-high molecular polyethylene (UHMPE) cord. This new cord is 40% stronger than Kevlar by weight, and is the strongest man-made material ever developed and is used in the next generation bulletproof vests.
As was always the case, we designed the MAXPRO to allow for the customer to replace the cords after normal wear (which we estimated to be yearly), however, this excessive “shedding” condition may necessitate a cord replacement earlier than expected depending on use, particularly if being used consistently at the highest resistance levels (level 20+).
